Brandywine Mills

Most of Delaware's mills were located along the piedmont fall line, where mountain waters dropped quickly to sea level.

The Brandywine mills, in Wilmington, sat directly on the fall line.  This afforded the millers an excellent supply of water power and easy access to river transportaion.
